Do you believe in the Chinese Gender Chart Predictor?

The Chinese Gender Chart, which is used to predict unborn baby gender, has become more and more popular in the western world lately. The chart was invented by the ancient Chinese some 700 years ago, and it is generally believed that the chart was a treasure of the King. If you had never heard about the Chinese Gender Chart, here is how it works.
It is actually a table with the X-axis indicating the lunar month and the Y-axis indicating the lunar age of the mother (click to view the chart). To predict a baby's gender, simply check out the value of the X and Y axis as to the date when the baby is conceived. At the point where they intersect, it will show the predicted baby's gender. With the chart, couples can choose the gender of their babies if the woman can get pregnant at the predefined months.

Like other free gender prediction methods, such as, the wedding ring test and the drano test, most people are using the Chinese Gender Chart just for fun. Nevertheless, there are a number of people who take it seriously. They claim that the chart is more accurate than other "superstitious" gender prediction methods. So, is the chart trustworthy?
It is said that during the late 1950s, modernization and systemization of Chinese Medicine System was conducted in China by the Chinese Communist government. Led by Premier Zhou Enlai (1898~1976), a large scale research had been carried out at hospitals in more than twenty cities throughout the country. Total pregnant women involved were more than three million. The aim of the research was to find out the relationship between baby gender and different characteristics of their parents. The results show that within mothers' ages ranging from 14 to 49, there is a certain relationship pattern between the baby’s gender and the mother’s lunar age and the lunar month of the baby conceived. The correlation rate was very high that it was more than 95%, and the 5% negative correlation was mainly due to various illnesses or wrong conversions of the western and eastern calendars. There was no correlation found between baby genders and their fathers, whatsoever.

The result had never been made public, simply because a boy is highly preferred to a girl under the one-child policy in China. A high imbalance in sex distribution in the country would have been predictable, if the Chinese were to know this fact.

Irrespective of whether this is history or not, the result of the research has actually confirmed the spirit behind the Chinese Gender Chart: that the mother is the predominant factor to determine the gender of the baby.
